The inaugural Profundo Workshop was a success!! From June 24-28 2019 we were at Tashirat, a community in Mexico which has adopted 30 children who are differently-abled. Everything turned out even better than imagined. So many huge amazing things happened as well as many small unexpected treasures, I loved every minute of it!
It felt so good to be working together for a good cause and it felt amazing documenting the Tashirat kids. Our instructors Kirsten Lewis, Citalli Rico, Daniel Aguliar & Buffy Goodman did a fantastic job teaching. For real you guys, I never knew how much a workshop could help me improve. So much happened in 4 days, so much was gained, learned, exchanged, created, felt, experienced…
Together we:
- Created a beautiful and extensive gallery of images and videos for Tashirat to use to grow their programs and fund, share with sponsors & for personal use.
- Brought one full truck worth of donations & over 300 books and created a small library for the school.
- Experienced the greatest slideshow ever with the most enthusiastic audience
- Had in-depth learning and critique sessions
- Educated 30 kids from the USA and residents of Tashirat about photography (HUGE thanks to the amazing Kara Counard and her thoughtfully-created program The Honoring Elders Project).
- Made new friends
- Created countless connections within our little project and with Tashirat’s residents
- Donated thousands of dollars to Tashirat (and several participants are now sponsoring kiddos at Tashirat)
- Hiked a mountain to a pyramid, had a Mexican sweat lodge, campfire, tarot reading & more.
For sure I feel happy, even proud, of what we accomplished. BUT I need to give a huge shout-out to the dedicated volunteers at Tashirat. Their work supports so many kids and the love they have for each other is much needed in our world. I don’t really think they should be called staff or volunteers, they’re all just part of a beautiful family. Their mission is wonderful and the kids they have are so loving and gracious and the location is breathtaking. We all were deeply touched by their service to these kids. People can be AWESOME!
This was hands down one of the highlights of my LIFE and now that we know it works we will definitely create another workshop next year! Stay tuned for details on Profundo Workshop 2020. The location TBA. Sign up for The Profundo Workshop mailing list to be the first to know more deets.
